By Colin Jones

One of the major attractions in Northumberland, is numerous landmarks as well as beautiful landscapes, that leave many people spoilt for choice. Depending on whether you are visiting for the first time or not, you will always find tour guides to show you around. This region is famous for trekking as well as cycling and horse riding tours, that are usually preplanned. Visitors also get to engage in a variety of water sports, that include kayaking and canoeing among others. In addition, there are varieties of wildlife and bird species, that draw many people here.

Usually, visiting Northumberland is a ideal technique to enjoying the outdoors, due to the fact apart from the activities you'll also get to delight in some great sights of castles. In reality, the number of castles here is estimated to become about 80, with most of them possessing been in existence for several centuries. Therefore, you will discover each magnificent castles, at the same time as the remains of castles that have ceased to exist.

Interestingly, I got the opportunity to style the dining room of one of the castles, that's near Allenheads. Unlike the several castles which have turned into ruins, this castle is very functional. It really is strategically located near Hadrian's Wall, whose history dates back to 1482 and is as a result frequented by a lot of people today. This castle is characteristic of those ancient constructions that emphasized on thick walls. It also features a moat, massive cellars which are employed for the storage of wine and a very old walled fruit garden.

When it comes to the interior, the castle boasts of spacious rooms, as is evident in the substantial bedrooms, living room and even the dining room. You can find also several contemporary art on the walls that give it a terrific appeal by effectively developing wonderful ambience. In designing the dining space, I brought in an element of both country and English design, by bringing inside a farmhouse table with a dark brown finish that was perfectly complimented by modern leather chairs. I also played about with the color to offer it a particular appeal, even though achieving the concept of maintaining the historic element from the castle. I also included a gold mirror, to bring in some contrast due to the fact contrast is amongst the universal guidelines for designing. This resulted in one of the best dining styles of all time.

In conclusion, although many of the castles that have been in existence from previous centuries, have equally old furniture that is reflective of the times, they were made, it is possible to inject some fresh and modern appeal into these castles. I feel I did a wonderful job designing some custom made wardrobes for the main bedrooms. This will not only keep them from deteriorating, but offers a perfect opportunity to preserve them. Moreover, introducing modern element into these castles contributes, towards increasing the number of visitors coming, because they would also like to see how the castles have managed to transform with times, to accommodate some of the modern elements in terms of accessories, furniture and even design.
